Travel Disruptions over October Half Term

Please be aware of major work across two transport schemes which are expected to cause significant disruption across the wider Newcastle area over October half-term.

The Tyne Bridge repairs are reaching a major milestone. From 2300 on Friday 23rd October until 0500 on Monday 2nd November, the Tyne Bridge will be fully closed to all traffic, pedestrians and cyclists. This is to enable extensive scaffolding works on the main arch to be completed, and will help reduce the overall programme by several weeks.

The A1 Western Bypass and local routes are expected to be much busier as a result.

Visit https://tynebridge.org/travel-advice for further information.

Over the same period, a nine-day major line closure on the Yellow Line will mean no trains running between St James and Monkseaton (both directions), from Saturday 24th October until Sunday 1st November.

Please allow extra time for your journeys, plan ahead, and where possible, use public transport.
