The completion of roads for adoption on Newcastle Great Park has for a number of years been a challenging topic of discussion.
With multiple development cells now fully built-out and the latest phase of the NGP Spine Road now connected to Kingston Park Road, this will now provide an opportunity for the NGP Consortium to work with Newcastle City Council in a new approach towards the adoption process. Allowing for scheduled dates for all adoptable roads to be handed over to the Local Authority.
Recently, Newcastle Great Park and Newcastle City Highways representatives met to discuss a holistic approach towards the adoption of primary roads. The adoptions plan below is a commitment between both parties to 1. Achieve adoption standards by the Consortium, and 2. Legally handover adoptable roads, management and maintenance to Newcastle City Council as set out, to proposed dates.
The agreement to progress adoptions is a huge positive step forward and the dates set are challenging, but achievable if all parties work together.
A similar adoptions plan has been proposed for the Melbury estate. The adoption process for the first 2 phases of Melbury is now almost complete. Following adoption of these phases, a future proposal of dates will then be agreed for the rest of the estate. This will follow in due course.
