Go Smarter

Go Smarter is a programme aimed at encouraging people across Tyne & Wear, Northumberland and County Durham to explore and use sustainable modes of transport – whether travelling to work or school.

Their website is a great source of information on cycling (and other sustainable travel modes) across the area.

Gateshead Council Cycling Pages

Whether you’re a resident or an employee at Newcastle Great Park, if your journey is to or from Gateshead, the cycling pages on the council website will help you to plan and improve your journey. Find cycling guidance, cycle maps, information on the bike donation scheme and more.

Sustrans

Sustrans is a national charity, delivering a wide range of work focused on cycling. A key part of what they deliver is the National Cycle Network, a UK-wide network of signed paths and routes for walking, cycling, wheeling and exploring outdoors.

The closest National Cycle Route to NGP is route 10, which is a 137-mile route from North Shields to Cockermouth. Locally, the route provides a link to Kielder Forest as well as an almost entirely traffic-free link with North Shields.

Route 10 provides links with a number of other routes in the local area, including route 72, route 1 and route 14.

Cycling UK has championed the cause of cycling for more than 140 years. They promote all forms of cycling, protect the interests of existing and would-be cyclists, and inspire people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to discover the joys of cycling. Their website is packed full of information and advice for all levels of cyclist.
