Nature Conservation Steering Group – Wednesday 4th December
The Nature Conservation Steering Group met on Wednesday 4th December at the Community Centre to discuss the Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP). The purpose of the BAP is to help protect and enhance wildlife within Newcastle Great Park (NGP). It is a working and evolving summary document reporting on the habitats and species present before the start of development, the changes year on year, and the targets for wildlife when the scheme is completed.
The Steering Group meet annually (or more frequently if required) and involves community representatives, Newcastle City Council and Consortium representatives, Natural England, Northumberland Wildlife Trust and the Environment Agency as well as others. This provides a forum to review the monitoring data against targets and discuss priorities and areas for improvement in the following years.
A presentation was prepared to summarise the 2019 monitoring which can be found by clicking here. Further updates on Biodiversity and what we can all do to enhance habitats and wildlife around us on Great Park will start to become more frequent as this is an increasingly important and sensitive issue.
