To date, tens of thousands of trees have been planted on the Park delivering huge net gains for biodiversity. Work is about to begin that will deliver a further 35,000 new trees this year.
The Consortium are still waiting to hear back from the council in terms of the Landscape Review that was undertaken in summer 2017 but remedial work is underway in relation to limited planting that has failed. Over the summer residents will see dead trees being removed, topsoil replaced in some locations and trees replaced in November 2018. This is the earliest tree planting can take place.
In Greenside over the next two weeks residents will see the landscape bund facing Kingston Park Road being strimmed and chemically weeded, this will be followed by the importation of soil via Elford Avenue. The final bund will be formed around Abberwick Walk and seeded, with woodland planting taking place in November 2018.
The contract has also been awarded for the implementation of the next phase of Strategic Open Space. Residents will see setting out and ground preparation over the next two weeks and work will continue in a phased way. The attached Programme of works shows the areas of work on a plan and sets out the main stages with current dates when work will take place. The programme is not fixed other than the final planting taking place in November 2018. The contractor will be following the programme but it is liable to change. If major changes are proposed a revised programme will be issued.
Work is also underway on the programme of planting for 2019 and similar updates will be provided later in the year.
