Enhancements & Changes to NGP Bus Services – Sept 2024

From September 1st 2024, Go North East’s Q3 service will cease to operate to and through NGP.

It will be replaced by two services operated by Stagecoach, as follows:

  1. An extension of the existing X47 from Kingston Park Road via the Spine Road and Roseden Way (west) – providing up to a 15-minute frequency (daytime) connecting NGP to Kingston Park and Newcastle City Centre (Eldon Square).
  1. A new service, number 49, operating from NGP to Newcastle City Centre (Eldon Square) via Regent Centre/Gosforth High Street, partly replacing the Q3 route. The 49 will operate on a 30-minute frequency during the peak periods to and from Regent Centre, then hourly through to Newcastle (Eldon Square) during the day, thereby maintaining a direct link to Gosforth. During times of peak demand for those accessing schools in Regent Centre/Gosforth, the timetable has been designed such that it offers equivalent or better capacity to the current Q3 service.

Initial timetables for both these services and route maps can be found here – https://www.stagecoachbus.com/promos-and-offers/north-east/great-park-bus-services

The current X46 service to Featherstone Grove via Brunton Park, funded by Nexus, and Stagecoach’s service 35 to Red House Farm (for Melbury) are both unaffected by these changes.

Nexus’ scholars services between NGP – Regent Centre will also be unchanged:

AM Services

  • S105 – 0716 from Sir Bobby Robson Way, arriving Regent Centre 0736
  • S135 – 0716 from Sir Bobby Robson Way, arriving Regent Centre 0736

PM Services

  • S105 – 1549 from Regent Centre, arriving Sir Bobby Robson Way 1609
  • S135 – 1611 from Regent Centre, arriving Sir Bobby Robson Way 1631

Overall, this represents a significant increase in the level of bus service provision to and through NGP. Until October 1st 2024, any customers with existing Go North East season passes can continue to use these tickets on the new Stagecoach services X47 and 49 until the date of expiry.

We will, over the coming weeks, be engaging with residents across the NGP area to promote these enhancements and are finalising plans for some in-person events at the Community Centre.
