We are continuing to work closely with OpenReach to provide fibre broadband to the whole of Newcastle Great Park. There have been updates across all of the remaining cabinets which is detailed below:
Cabinet 21 – Cell C (Elmwood Park)
We now have the finalised proposal from OpenReach to implement FTTP throughout the remainder of Cell C. Sean Hood, the community lead on the project, is now contacting some of you who have given your details to him for the government funding opportunity to pay for the project. If you have not been contacted, do not worry, this does not mean that you will not get fibre. All residents in Cell C will have fibre once the project has been completed. If you have been contacted by Sean, please can you respond ASAP so that he knows he has the correct e-mail address. The next steps will be for the proposal to be signed and the project commenced. The normal project deadline is 12 months from signing, however we will work closely with OpenReach, residents, and the local council to ensure that the project runs as smoothly as possible in the hope that we can expedite the 12 months.
Cabinet 23 – Cell F (Wagon Way/Branton)
OpenReach have given me the dates to install the new cabinet to support the residents in Cell F. The new cabinet should be installed by 19th July, which should allow residents to upgrade to fibre connections with their suppliers by 22nd July. We will keep in contact with the OpenReach team about this to ensure that they communicate the new capacity to all suppliers as soon as it is available.
Cabinet 28 – Cell E (Roseden, Merlin Chase, Osprey Walk)
OpenReach have begun the work for the main spine on this cell. They have advised that they have hit a small blockage whilst doing the spine, but do not believe this will cause a delay in the project. We will continue to apply pressure on this proposal so that it is completed as soon as possible.
We would like to provide regular monthly updates on this until all of Newcastle Great Park has access to high speed internet. The next update will be available on 26th July 2019. If you would like to get more information on the matter, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
