Following an approach from Newcastle City Council, the Newcastle Great Park Consortium have been working with a range of stakeholders to consider the potential to use the Newcastle Great Park and Ride Facility as a temporary coronavirus regional testing site.
The Consortium have agreed to help in any way to facilitate this use and from Thursday 21 May 2020 the current Park and Ride Facility will close and be taken over by the NHS.
We are aware that the site is currently being used by a small number of residents for informal recreation. From Thursday this will no longer be possible in the Park and Ride, but all other areas of open space, footpaths and cycleways throughout the Park are available.
The Q3 Bus service will still operate but with a slightly amended route and the stop at the Park and Ride will be moved to the layby in front of the SAGE office. All route changes will be publicised by the Bus operator.
Further updates will be provided by Newcastle City Council and the NHS. We hope you will agree that this temporary use should be supported in these unprecedent times.
